Evansville Otters News Release
The Evansville Otters have signed 6'0 short stop Brandon Javis out of Savannah State University. Javis originally from Columbia, South Carolina graduated from Cross Creek High School in 2004. Javis was drafted in the 35th round of the 2004 amateur draft by the Seattle Mariners but decided not to sign and instead played two years for Tigers where he pursued a degree in mass communication, advertising and public relations.
His first year with the Tigers was in 2007 where he played in 53 games blasting 7 homeruns and knocking in 36 RBI's in 196 at-bats and 63 hits. He led the Tigers in homeruns, RBI's, slugging percentage, walks and assists and was named to the Louisville Slugger Freshman All-America Baseball Team. He also received Ping All-American third team honors as a freshman.
During his second and final season with the Tigers he continued to increase his average to .326 in 129 at-bats with 42 hits, 5 of those jacks. His on base percentage increased from .389 to .432 along with his slugging average from .520 to .581. He also earned second team All-Independent Team and made the 2008 Brooks Wallace Pre-Season Watch List.
Carlton Hardy, head baseball coach at Savannah State University, said "Brandon Javis was one of the best players he ever coached and he has unlimited potential as a professional player." "Brandon is the type of player who will show up early to the field and stay late, his work ethic is tremendous and he will be a he asset to our team."
