Evansville Otters News Release
The Evansville Otters have added two right-handed pitchers with professional baseball experience to their 2009 roster.
Calen Sutton from Bay City, Mich., pitched at Jackson State Community College before transferring to the University of Tennessee at Martin for the 2007 and 2008 seasons. As a junior in 2007 Sutton pitched 32.1 innings with 26 strikeouts and an earned run average of 8.64. Sutton thrived after joining the starting rotation midway through his senior season. He posted a 4-3 record and 4.92 ERA in 20 games, including seven starts and three complete games. Sutton was the only pitcher with a winning record on a team that finished 10-41, and his ERA was more than a run lower than any other on the staff. Sutton appeared in two games with the Lincoln Salt Dogs of the American Association in 2008.
John Ducey of Augusta, Ga., started his career pitching two seasons at Seminole Community College in Florida. In 2005 he went 7-3 with a 2.38 ERA, hurling 94.2 innings and giving up 71 hits for the Raiders.
After transferring to Armstrong Atlantic State University as a junior, he started 15 games for an 8-2 record with one shutout in 2006. In 93.2 innings he struck out 73 and gave up 33 earned runs to compile an ERA of 3.17. Ducey pitched in 14 games for Georgia Southern University as a senior in 2007, starting 10 games for a 4-3 record. He struck out 34 in 49.2 innings for an ERA of 5.98. Ducey pitched in eight games for the Aiken Foxhounds of the South Coast League in 2007.
