Reading Fightin Phils News Release
The Fightin Phils (35-52) and Trenton Thunder (42-49) were even two-thirds of the way through until the Thunder scored three runs in the top of the 8th inning to break a 3-3 tie. Ryan O'Sullivan pitched five solid innings in a no-decision effort.
Trenton got on the scoreboard first in the top of the 2nd inning as Casey Stevenson hit a sacrifice fly off Ryan O'Sullivan to score Rob Segedin and give Trenton a 1-0 lead. Reading took a 2-1 lead off Taylor Garrison and the Thunder in the bottom of the 2nd inning as Peter Lavin hit a two-run single to score Jake Fox and Aaron Altherr.
Trenton tied the game at 2-2 in the top of the 3rd inning as Ben Gamel hit a RBI single to score Ali Casillo who led off the inning with a double off O'Sullivan. After the final out of the inning the game stopped due to a :59 minute rain delay.
Reading took a 3-2 lead after the rain delay as Kelly Dugan hit a RBI groundout off Thunder reliever Jaren Long (1-0) to score Albert Cartwright who led off the inning with a single then moved to second on a throwing error from Rob Segedin. Peter O'Brien tied the game at 3-3 in the top of the 6th inning off reliever Miguel Alfredo Gonzalez as he hit a solo home run.
Matt Hoffman (0-1) entered the game in relief of Gonzalez in the top of the 8th inning. After recording two quick outs he gave up back to back hits to Gary Sanchez and Peter O'Brien. He intentionally walked Rob Segedin in the following at-bat to load the bases. Kyle Simon entered the game to face Zach Wilson with two-outs and gave up a bases-clearing three-run double as Trenton would take a 6-3 lead.
Jake Fox hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the 8th inning off Jaren Long to bring the Fightins within one-run as Trenton still led 6-5. Kelly Dugan was hit by a pitch in the previous at-bat and scored on the play. Tyler Webb (7) earned the save for Trenton as he pitched 1 1/3 scoreless innings.
The Fightin Phils and Trenton Thunder meet tomorrow night at 7:05 pm at FirstEnergy Stadium. Adam Loewen (0-2, 4.72 ERA) makes the start for Reading.
