
McDade Homers But Fisher Cats Fall

MANCHESTER, NH---Mike McDade homered and drove in the go-ahead run with a fifth inning single but New Britain rallied for a 5-4 decision over the Fisher Cats on Tuesday night at Northeast Delta Dental Stadium in Manchester.
McDade hit the first pitch of the bottom of the fourth inning for his sixth home run and DH K.C. Hobson hit his second homer later in the frame to trim a New Britain lead to 3-2.
In the fifth inning, Dalton Pompey singled, moved to third on single by Matt Newman, scoring when the Rock Cats misplayed the ball. Newman advanced to second and scored on McDade's single to put the Fisher Cats (42-47) in front for the first time 4-3.
New Britain (44-44) scored twice in the top of the sixth inning to earn the win. Brandon Waring walked, advanced to second on a sacrifice fly by Steve Wickens, scoring on a pinch-single by Brad Boyer. Boyer went to second on the throw to the plate, scoring on a single by Mike Kvasnicka off losing pitcher, reliever Dustin Antolin (3-4).
The Rock Cats started fast in the contest. Kvasnicka led off the game with a homer off New Hampshire starter Daniel Norris for a 1-0 lead. Aaron Hicks singled, and scored on a single by Tony Thomas.
New Britain took a 3-0 lead in the top of the fourth inning on a sacrifice fly by Wickens.
Tyler Duffey (4-2) won for New Britain, working 5.1 IP, allowing four runs (three earned). He had four strikeouts. Daniel Turpen earned his first save of 2014.
In the completion of the suspended game from Monday night, the Rock Cats topped the Fisher Cats 10-2. Brandon Waring hit a grand slam and Lance Ray went 2-for-3 with a triple and a double and two RBI. Jim Fuller (3-1) pitched three innings of scoreless relief to earn the win. John Anderson (1-1) took the loss. Kevin Nolan hit a two-run homer in the bottom of the seventh, his fifth of the season, for the Fisher Cats.
