MISSOULA, MONT - The Missoula Osprey (24-24, 5-5) jumped out to a 4-1 lead after three innings and plated two more runs in the middle innings to preserve a 6-5 victory over the Great Falls Voyagers (23-25, 1-9) Saturday from Ogren Park Allegiance Field.
Great Falls tagged on an early run in the top of the first to jump ahead 1-0. Bryce Bush was hit by a pitch and then stole second and advanced to third on a wild pitch. He then scored on a passed ball to give the Voyagers the first lead of the game.
Blaze Alexander wasted no time in the bottom of the first for the Osprey, drilling his first home run in Missoula to tie the game 1-1 after one.
Missoula grabbed its first lead in the bottom of the third as they put two men in scoring position. Eddie Hernandez drove a double to give the Osprey a 2-1 lead and Brandon Leyton singled home two more with the bases loaded to push the lead to 4-1.
With three runs in the top of the fourth, Great Falls made it a one-run game. Amado Nunez drilled a solo home run while a run scored on a fielder's choice and a passed ball to make it a one run game. Bush then launched his first homer of the season for Great Falls to tie the game in the fifth.
The Osprey wasted no time in taking the lead back in the bottom of the inning as Buddy Kennedy led off with a double and scored on a passed ball. Missoula added a run to its lead when Zachery Almond singled to center and Logan Sowers committed a throwing error to push the lead to 6-4.
However, Great Falls posted a run in the seventh when Lenyn Sosa grounded out to score Bush, who tripled to begin the inning, to pull the game within a run, 6-5.
Jake Polancic entered the game on the mound in the top of the eighth with two men on and one out. He struck out two batters to preserve the lead into the ninth. Polancic allowed two singles in the final inning, but he induced a flyout to end the game. Polancic earned his first save of the season while Wilfry Cruz (5-1) picked up the win after tossing five innings of four-run baseball.
Missoula hosts Great Falls Sunday for a 5:05 pm first pitch at Ogren Park Allegiance Field. The Selway Armory Pregame Show begins at 6:45 pm on 102.9 ESPN Missoula and the MiLB First Pitch App.
