GREAT FALLS, MONT - The Missoula Osprey could not keep up with the Great Falls Voyagers on Wednesday night here at Centene Stadium, as the hosts took down a 9-5 win here in front of 3,595 fans.
The Voyagers scored five runs in their final three at-bats to take control of the game in the later innings, and jump into a first-place tie with the Billings Mustangs, who lost to Helena on Wednesday. The Osprey stay one game off the pace despite the setback.
After Great Falls jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning, the Osprey answered with a two-run home run by Yosbel Gutierrez in the top of the second inning for a 2-1 edge.
The Voyagers would answer with a pair of doubles and a two-run home half of the third, and a Tyler Williams solo home run to deep right center field off of Osprey starter Chris Pack to build a 4-2 Great Falls edge.
Missoula responded with a three-run sixth inning off of Vouagers reliever Zach Isler, Jake Lamb singled home one run, then two more scored on a wild pitch and a passed ball to give the Osprey a 5-4 lead.
Great Falls answered with a two-run single from Zac Fisher to push the Voyagers to a 6-5 lead in the bottom of the sixth inning, and added a pair of runs in the seventh and one more in the eighth inning to close out the scoring.
The Osprey collected 10 hits on the night, with four batters - Gutierrez, Lamb, Pedro Ruiz and Breland Almadova each collected a pair of safeties, while Evan Marzilli and Justin Bianco also singled for Missoula.
The Osprey and Voyagers will continue their three-game series on Thursday at Centene Stadium. The Osprey will send left-hander Andrew Barbosa to the mound, while the Voyagers will go to right-hander JC Casey.
The Osprey will return home to start a seven-game homestand against Grand Junction and Orem on Wednesday, July 11. Tickets are available now at the MSO Hub Box Office, located at 140 North Higgins in Downtown Missoula, online at MissoulaOsprey.com and by phone (406) 543-3300.
