Great Falls Voyagers News Release
GREAT FALLS - The Great Falls Voyagers (10-7) pulled away from another close battle with the Missoula Osprey (9-8) and grabbed a 9-5 win in front of a sellout crowd on the Fourth of July. The win was the Voyagers fifth in a row and brought them into a tie for first place with the Billings Mustangs.
The Voyagers took an early lead in the first as Adam Heisler walked, stole a base, and scored without the Voyagers collecting a hit in the inning. Starting a theme for the night, the lead didn't last long as the Osprey got a two run home run from Yosbel Gutierrez in the top of the second for a 2-1 lead. The lead change was the first of four in the ballgame.
Heisler and Justin Jirschele hit back to back doubles in the third inning to tie the score at two before Kyle Robinson knocked a clutch two-out hit to give the Voyagers a 3-2 lead. The Voyagers collected five of their first six runs with two outs.
Thomas Royse held the lead through five innings and left in-line to earn the win, but for the first time in 18 innings, the Voyager bullpen couldn't hold. Zach Isler started the sixth and snapped a streak of consecutive scoreless innings that spanned the length of two full games as he allowed three runs to cross for a 5-4 Osprey lead.
With two outs and the bases loaded in the sixth, Zac Fisher stepped to the plate looking for his first RBI of the season. Fisher worked the count to 2-1 before lining a base hti to right center field that gave the Voyagers a 6-5 lead. The Voyagers added two more in the seventh on Kyle Robinson's ninth double and grabbed another in the eighth on an error while Isler settled and Joseph Dvorsky shut down the Osprey for two innings and his second save.
The Voyagers continue their Fourth of July Weekend homestand tomorrow night with another matchup with the Osprey. It's Sip 'N Dip Thirsty Thursday so all draft beers are just $2. It is also $.25 Hot Dog Night presented by Redneck Sausage, so fans can get their fill of beers and hot dogs for the lowest price around. Tickets are still available at 452-5311 orgfvoyagers.com.
