Osprey Outlast Owlz 4-3 to Move Within 1 Game of 1st

July 12, 2019 - Pioneer League (PL) - Missoula PaddleHeads News Release

MISSOULA, MT - The Missoula Osprey are making a major move to win the Pioneer League's 1st half title. The Osprey rode homeruns from both DH Francis Martinez and RF Tristen Carranza to outlast the Orem Owlz 4-3 on Thursday Night. The Osprey win coupled with Idaho Falls losing to Ogden means that the Osprey gained another game on Idaho Falls in the North. After being down 7 games to Idaho Falls on Monday, July 1st, the Osprey have moved to within 1 game of the Chukars with 13 games remaining in the 1st half. They have gained six games on first in 10 days.

The Osprey took the lead in the 2nd inning as DH Francis Martinez scored two on a two-run blast to left-center, homering for the first time since June 19th. The Osprey then increased the lead to 3-0 in the 3rd inning on Carranza's solo homerun to right, his second of the season and second in two nights. Missoula then scored again in 4th on CF Dom Canzone's RBI groundout scoring SS Liover Peguero for a 4-0 lead.

The Owlz attempted to make it close, as they'd respond to a 4-0 Osprey start with three solo homers. With a 4-3 game going into the 9th, the Osprey were required to enlist the services of RHP Mailon Arroyo, who nabbed his fifth save of the season. Arroyo went an inning and two-thirds of work, striking out three to nail the late-game push shut.

The home stand continues Friday night, headlined by the Jack's Pub Friday Night Party, with the Brewmasters Brewfest kicking off tomorrow. Twelve additional craft beers from local vendors and breweries will be added to Jack's Pub, 54 beers on tap, in total throughout the stadium. The Jack's Pub Friday Night Party will begin at 4:00pm and includes drink specials and fun finger foods. Come out early and enjoy watching batting practice, playing cornhole, giant Jenga, or try our putting green.
