MISSOULA, MONT - A fifth round draft choice in 2011 by the Arizona Diamondbacks and a former Missoula Osprey catcher, Michael Perez has been called up to the Majors by the Tampa Bay Rays. The 66th Osprey alum to reach the majors appeared in Thursday's game against Baltimore.

In his first game with the Rays, Perez finished 1-2 with a double against the Orioles in a 4-3 victory for Tampa Bay.

With the Osprey in 2012, Perez became known for his power at the plate and strong arm behind the dish. In 58 games started, Perez smacked a career-high 10 home runs and 60 RBIs with a .293 batting average. Perez started his career with the AZL D-backs in 2011 after being drafted in the fifth round in 2011 by the Diamondbacks.

Moving through the organization, Perez recorded a .284 average with six home runs in Triple-A this season to receive the call to the big league club.

Perez is the fifth former Osprey to receive the call to the bigs this year, joining pitchers Brad Keller and Yefry Ramirez along with infielder Daniel Palka and outfielder Justin Williams.

The O's continue their 2018 season and a quest for a playoff berth.

Osprey ticket plans are available now and can be purchased at the MSO Hub, by phone at (406) 543-3300 and online at MissoulaOsprey.com.
