
Brewers' Three-Run 8th Sinks Voyagers

Great Falls, MT - The Voyagers left nine men on base and went 1-for-9 with runners in scoring position in a 5-2 loss to Helena Thursday night at Centene Stadium.
Great Falls (22-17, 0-1) is now 3-6 in the season series against the Brewers. Helena (18-21, 1-0) snapped a three-game losing streak. The Voyagers home record fell to 15-5. The Brewers road record improved to 7-13.
The Voyagers started the scoring with a single run in the 1st. Steele Walker and Lenyn Sosa produced back-to-back singles to begin the home half. With Walker at third, Logan Sowers hit a ball off the pitcher's leg that deflected to the shortstop for an RBI groundout.
Both teams plated runs in the 2nd. In the top half, Helena's Je'Von Ward led off with a base hit to right-center. Ward eventually ended up at third after two wild pitches. Following a walk of Pablo Abreu, Jose Sibrian singled on the infield to reach base. On the play, Abreu was ruled out for runner's interference near the grounder at first. Jesus Lujano leveled the game with an RBI single to right.
In the bottom of the 2nd, Great Falls reclaimed the lead after Ryan Fitzpatrick led off with a hit-by-pitch. Amado Nunez then singled to center. Fitzpatrick tagged up and moved to third on a fly out to right. Ramon Beltre brought Fitzpatrick home on a base hit to center for a 2-1 lead. The single for Beltre extended his consecutive game on-base streak to 21.
Helena tied the game in the 6th with a two-out, solo home run deep to right by David Fry. A three-run 8th put the Brewers ahead for good. Chad McClanahan led off with a walk. Eddie Silva was hit by a pitch. Back-to-back doubles by Fry and Je'Von Ward accounted for the runs. Ward had a two-run double.
The Brewers outhit Great Falls 9-to-8. Je'Von Ward went 3-for-4 with two RBIs. David Fry posted two hits with two RBIs, and two runs scored. Lenyn Sosa had two hits for the Voyagers.
On the mound, Joey Matulovich picked up his first professional win in relief. Matulovich (1-1) worked four scoreless to finish the game and gave up three hits with seven strikeouts and two walks. Vince Arobio took the loss. Arobio (1-4) pitched one inning in relief and allowed three earned runs on two hits with two strikeouts and one walk.
