O'Shea Leads Strikeout Party

Frederick was clicking on all cylinders on Sunday afternoon. The Keys amassed 16 hits, one shy of their season-high, while the pitchers struck out a total of 16 batters which tied a season-high that was set in a 15-inning game on May 1 against Myrtle Beach. LF Bobby Stevens went 3-for-4 with a double, a homerun, and two RBI while Keys starter, Ryan O'Shea, struck out a career-high 11 batters en route to his seventh victory of the year. With the win, Frederick improved to 24-25 in the second-half of the season while Winston-Salem fell to 24-24.

Following the first three innings at Harry Grove Stadium, Ryan O'Shea stole the show. Neither team scored through three but O'Shea had already eclipsed a career-high in strikeouts after the third inning. The New Orleans, LA native registered eight punch outs through three innings.

Despite the high strikeout totals, Winston-Salem was the first to score on Sunday afternoon. With two out and two on, 2B Kyle Shelton hit a two-run double down the rightfield line to give the Dash a 2-0 lead.

The Keys would come right back in the bottom of the fourth. With two down in the inning, 2B Miguel Abreu hit a groundball down the third base line. Jon Gilmore back handed the ball and tossed it to first. The Gilmore throw pulled 1B Seth Loman off the bag as Abreu slid into the bag for the infield hit. After LF Bobby Stevens doubled, 1B Buck Britton singled home Abreu and Stevens to tie the game at two.

Frederick took their first lead of the game the next inning. CF Kyle Hudson led off the inning with an infield single. With SS Pedro Florimon at the plate, Hudson swiped second and third base. After Florimon walked, RF Ronnie Welty grounded into a double play but Hudson scored from third to give the Keys a 3-2 lead.

Ryan O'Shea finished up his outing after tossing a scoreless top of the sixth inning. O'Shea allowed two runs on five hits while walking two and striking out a career-high 11. His career-high prior to Sunday was seven strikeouts.

Bobby Stevens belted a towering blast to leftfield in the bottom of the sixth inning to increase the Keys lead to three runs. The Stevens two-run shot was his third homerun of the season. Frederick added three more runs in the seventh inning as they cruised to the 8-2 win. Four Keys (Hudson, Abreu, Stevens, Buck Britton) had three hits on the afternoon.

Ryan Berry and Josh Dowdy tossed three scoreless innings of relief to ensure the Keys series victory. Frederick completed the 2010 season, 10-10 against Winston-Salem.

The Keys will open up a four-game series on Monday night against the Wilmington Blue Rocks. RHP Luis Noel (3-2, 5.76) will toe the rubber for Frederick while RHP Bryan Paukovits (3-3, 5.28) gets the nod for the Blue Rocks. First pitch is set for 7:00 p.m. from Harry Grove Stadium.
