
Four-Run First Spurs Cats Sweep

Lynchburg picked up four early runs and Chris Richburg had two hits to lead the Cats to a 6-4 win. The Cats earn the series sweep, their first of the second half and second of the season.
Lynchburg has now won four straight, six out of seven. Against the Indians this season, the Hillcats finished 14-6.
The Cats scored four times in the first frame. Chris Richburg doubled in Brodie Greene to start the scoring. Kyle Day then walked. Shane Carlson doubled to score Richburg and put runners at second and third. Carlson extended his hitting streak to 12 games, the second longest streak for Lynchburg this season. Jose Gualdron capped the scoring with a two-run single.
Kinston came back in the top of the second. The first four batters reached, scoring three runs. Chun Chen, Kyle Bellows and Abner Abreu each singled and scored to pull back within one at 4-3.
Lynchburg scored again in the fourth. Efrain Contreras led off with a single and advanced to third on the single by Jordan Wideman. Greene then hit a sacrifice fly to drive in Contreras.
The Indians answered with one more in the sixth. Bellows singled with two outs and scored on Abreu's triple. Cody Puckett homered to lead off the seventh and answer that run scored, and put the Cats up 6-4.
Pedro Villarreal made his first start with Lynchburg and threw three innings. He gave up three runs, two earned. Daniel Guerrero relieved him and threw three innings. He gave up one run and struck out three and gets the win. Donnie Joseph pitched a 1-2-3 ninth inning to earn his 16th save.
Lynchburg opens up a series with Myrtle Beach tomorrow at City Stadium at 7:05 p.m. The Hillcats send out Curtis Partch (5-8, 5.08) to open up the four-game set. ABC 13 presents 50-cent hot dog Monday at City Stadium. Gates open at 6 p.m.
