
Oscar De La Cruz Deals in Eugene's 4-1 Win over Spokane

EUGENE, Ore. - Oscar De La Cruz recorded a career-high 13 strikeouts as he and reliever Greyfer Eregua combined for a one-hitter in Eugene's, 4-1, victory over Spokane on Wednesday night at PK Park.
Eugene (17-11, 34-32) maintained a one-game lead over Hillsboro in the Northwest League South Division standings. The Hops scored twice in the bottom of the ninth to beat Tri-City, 3-2.
De La Cruz was dominant in his 12th start of the season. The 6-foot-5 right-hander, who was recently named the No. 23 prospect in the Cubs' organization, showed why on Wednesday night. De La Cruz struck out 13 batters over six one-hit innings.
The only run to score off him was in the fifth, when two batters reached on dropped third strikes and one scored on a throwing error. De La Cruz actually had four strikeouts in the fifth inning and recorded five total outs. He had a no-hitter going until Diego Cedeno singled for Spokane with two outs in the sixth. De La Cruz came back to get two more strikeouts in the seventh before being pulled to start the eighth. Eregua tallied two punch out in two perfect innings.
Andrew Ely had a pair of hits while Eloy Jimenez reached three times to lead the Emeralds offensively. Jimenez singled in the third, was hit by a pitch in the fifth and walked in the seventh.
Eugene jumped out to an early lead with a three-run third inning. Sutton Whiting started things off with a double to left center before coming around to score on a two-out single by P.J. Higgins. The two-out hits continued when Jimenez singled to put runners at first and third. A walk to Ely loaded the bases for Alex Bautista, who doubled down the left field line to score a pair. Eugene added another run in the sixth when Alberto Mineo doubled and later scored on a fielder's choice by Ricardo Marcano.
Dewees Hit Streak: With a 0-4 night against Spokane, Donnie Dewees saw his 18-game hitting streak snapped on Wednesday night.
Up Next: The Emeralds meet Spokane for the final game in a five-game series on Thursday. It will be Portlandia Night, with the team wearing special plaid uniforms with skinny jean pants in honor of the famous IFC television show. It will also be Pabst Blue Ribbon Tall Boy Thursday, with $3 tall cans of PBR available.
