DATE: Sunday, Oct. 8, 5 p.m. LISTEN: OSBN on Mixlr TODAY: The Solar Bears (0-1-0-0) conclude the 2017 preseason against the Everblades (1-0-0-0). Orlando then opens the 2017-18 regular season on the road next Saturday at Jacksonville.
BLUE LINE PROVIDING SHOTS: Forward Joe Perry led the Solar Bears with four shots on goal last night, but defensemen Jeff King and Nolan Valleau each provided three shots for Orlando as well, accounting for 25% of the team's shot totals.
NO LOVE LOST: Each period featured a fight, as Michael Turner, Brandon Platt and Mike Monfredo dropped the gloves for Orlando. PLUS-ONE: Because three of Florida's four goals came on the man advantage, most of the Solar Bears roster recorded and even plus-minus rating in Saturday's game. Defensemen Jeff King and MacKenzie Braid, along with forwards Mike Vaskivuo, Chris Crane and J.J. Piccinich recorded a +1 for Orlando, as all five were on the ice for Vaskivuo's second-period tally.
AFFILIATE NOTES: Garret Sparks made 19 saves for Toronto yesterday afternoon as the Marlies (1-0-0-0) opened their season with a 3-1 win over Utica; the two teams square off again this afternoon at 4 p.m. The Maple Leafs (2-0-0-0) held off the New York Rangers for an 8-5 victory in last night's home opener at the Air Canada Centre, and host Chicago on Monday.
