Orem Loses Heartbreaker 10-9

Orem and Idaho Falls exchanged blows in the final three innings, but the Chukars held on for a 10-9 lead in the first game of a pivotal three game series on Friday night at the Home of the Owlz.
The Chukars coughed up two leads in the 7th and 8th innings, but scored four runs in the top of the 9th off of Robbie Powell to come back and pick up the win. The victory puts Orem and Idaho Falls in a tie for first place in the South division.
In the top of the 9th, Powell got Adalberto Mondesi to fly out to start the frame; however, Carlos Garcia singled, Elier Hernandez walked, Nick Cuckovich knocked home Garcia and with two outs, Parker Morin drove home Hernandez to tie the game. Austin Adams came in with two men in scoring position and surrendered a 2-run double to put the Chukars ahead 10-8.
Orem tried to rally in the 9th, scoring one run and loading the bases with two outs, but Adrian Gutierrez struck out to end the comeback.
The Owlz came back twice in the game, scoring two runs in the 7th to take a one-run lead thanks to a 2-run home run by Wade Hinkle. An inning later, the Owlz trailed by one and got three runs on a solo home run by Jarrod Parks and a 2-run home run from Andrew Ray.
Gabriel Perez was in search for his seventh straight win and an Owlz record eight wins in a season, but he lasted four innings, surrendering four runs on four hits, two walks and two hit by pitches.
The Owlz bullpen has been rock solid and looked great when Garrett Baker fired three scoreless innings, but Jake Boyd and Robbie Powell combined to give up six runs in 1.2 innings.
The two teams will be back at it on Saturday evening at 7:05 p.m. It will be Hootz and Holly's Anniversary, as well as a mini bat giveaway, so make sure and come out to the ballpark.
