Ontario Reign Game Preview: Reign Close Three-Game Series with Barracuda Tonight in San Jose

Ontario, CA - The Ontario Reign, proud American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate of the Los Angeles Kings of the National Hockey League (NHL), visit the San Jose Barracuda tonight at 7:30 PT at SAP Center to wrap up a three-game midseason series. Tonight is the ninth of 12 meetings between the two teams this season.

Barracuda Fillets:

The Reign are 2-0-0-0 against the Barracuda in this three-game series after picking up back-to-back one-goal wins at Citizens Business Bank Arena last weekend. On Friday, the Reign skated away with a 1-0 victory and fought off a two-goal deficit Saturday for a 3-2 triumph.

Pacific Division Rivals Clash:

The Reign hold a 7-1-0-0 record against the Barracuda and are currently on a six-game winning streak against their Pacific Division rivals.

Backman is the Backbone:

Forward Sean Backman leads the Reign and the head-to-head series with seven points (three goals, four assists).

Mersch Lights the Lamp:

Forward Michael Mersch is on a four-game goal scoring streak with five tallies.

Sommer Eyes AHL Record:

San Jose Head Coach Roy Sommer (636 wins) is tied for the AHL all-time coaching wins record set by Fred "Bun" Cook. Cook grabbed 636 wins over 19 seasons (1,171 games) from 1937-56.

Reign are Rolling:

The Reign enter tonight's contest on a season-high nine-game point streak (8-0-1-0).

Down to the Wire:

The last six meetings between the Reign and Barracuda have been decided by one goal.
