Ontario Reign, City of Ontario Fire Department & Chaffey District Partner to Provide "Stop the Bleed" Training

ONTARIO, CA - The Ontario Reign and the Hope Reigns Foundation are partnering with the Ontario Fire Department and the Chaffey Joint Union High School District (CJUHSD) to provide life-saving "Stop the Bleed" training and bleeding control kits for district campuses and their personnel.
The Reign are donating $20,000 to purchase bleeding control kits that will be placed in CJUHSD campuses. The training is being conducted by the Ontario Fire Department, and is designed to provide staff members with the skills they need to take immediate actions to control life-threatening hemorrhaging in the event of a bleeding emergency.
A check was presented to city fire officials Saturday evening, January 26, as part of First Responders Night during the Reign's game at Citizens Business Bank Arena.
"We are proud to partner with the City of Ontario Fire Department and the Chaffey School District to help fulfill an important need in our community," Ontario Reign President Darren Abbott said. "The Kings have created a similar initiative in the South Bay over the past two years and we are pleased to be able to make this donation here in the Inland Empire. We look forward to getting these kits into our schools to help them be better prepared in case of an emergency."
The Ontario Fire Department's program is modeled on the "Stop the Bleed" national awareness campaign, empowering communities to make a difference in life-threatening emergencies through the teaching of basic bleeding control techniques.
At the Chaffey District offices in Ontario, the Ontario Fire Department has provided training to approximately 100 district personnel, including campus security officers from each of its schools. The Fire Department plans to continue providing the "Stop the Bleed" training program to reach as many of the CJUHSD staff members as possible.
"We're extremely grateful for this partnership with the Reign and the Ontario Fire Department, and the opportunity to better prepare our personnel if an emergency were to occur on one of our campuses," Dr. Mathew Holton, Chaffey District Superintendent, said.
With nearly 24,000 students, Chaffey is the second largest high school district in California, and in Ontario, is home to three comprehensive high schools, an adult school, community day school, online high school and continuation high school.
"Uncontrolled bleeding is the No. 1 cause of preventable death from trauma, so every second matters," Ontario Fire Chief Ray Gayk said. "The more we can train our community on how to control bleeding in an injured patient, the greater the chances of surviving that injury."
The bleeding control kits, which cost approximately $100 if bought individually, are all encompassing and critical to the overall success of the program.
"We're blessed in Ontario to have the Reign as such a generous community partner," Mayor Paul Leon said. "Our emergency personnel are second to none, and with the 'Stop the Bleed' training and kits, our community is even better prepared in the event of a life-threatening emergency. We thank the Reign for helping to fund this essential program."
