Campbell Becomes First IceHogs Skater to Captain AHL All-Star Team
January 29, 2019 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Rockford IceHogs News Release
SPRINGFIELD, MASS. - Rockford IceHogs defenseman Andrew Campbell became the first player in team history to serve as captain during an AHL All-Star game as the Central Division finished 1-2-0-0 in the 2019 Lexus AHL All-Star Classic presented by MGM Springfield Monday night at MassMutual Center.
The Central Division dropped the first two contests of the showcase, falling 4-2 to the North Division and 3-1 to the Atlantic Division, before salvaging a victory in their final game of round-robin play with a 5-3 win over the Pacific Division. Campbell skated in each of the Central Division's three games and logged a shot on goal.
The IceHogs blueliner also starred in the 2019 All-Star Skills Challenge on Sunday, finishing second in the CCM Hardest Shot event with a 99.5 MPH slap shot. His impressive blast was just shy of Lehigh Valley forward Greg Carey, whose shot clocked in at 100.4 MPH for the Eastern Conference. Click HERE to view the full list of results.
The Western Conference defeated the Eastern Conference 14-7 in the Skills Challenge, while the North Division won the All-Star Classic with a shootout victory over the Atlantic Division in the championship game.
Campbell and the IceHogs will return from the All-Star break to host the Chicago Wolves at the BMO Harris Bank Center on Friday, Feb. 1 at 7 p.m. The veteran defenseman is five games away from becoming just the 74th player in the AHL's 82-year history to skate in 700 career AHL games. Campbell next takes the ice having skated in 695 AHL games during his 11-year career with Manchester, Portland, Toronto, Tucson and Rockford.
Next Home Game | Fri. Feb. 1, 7 p.m. vs. Chicago Wolves
The IceHogs host the Chicago Wolves for Rocky Wirtz Signing/Fireworks Night. Chicago Blackhawks chairman, Rocky Wirtz, and Hall of Fame goaltender, Tony Esposito, will be in attendance for a book signing of Wirtz's new release, "The Breakaway: The Inside Story of the Wirtz Family and the Chicago Blackhawks." Fans are invited to stick around postgame for a fireworks show (presented by LawnCare by Walter) inside the BMO Harris Bank Center. In addition, the first 2,500 fans in attendance Friday will receive a free American Flag, courtesy of BMO Harris Bank.
