Rochester Red Wings News Release
Rochester scored its most runs in over 14 years in game one and the Red Wings rallied with five runs in the final frame of game two to sweep a doubleheader from the Pawtucket Red Sox Friday night at McCoy Stadium.
Game 1
It didn't take long for the Red Wings to blow the first game open. Rochester plated four runs in the 2nd and six in the 3rd, jumping out to a 10-0 lead. Pawtucket would score three runs in the 3rd but left the bases loaded against Kohl Stewart. It was 12-4 heading to the 7th inning when the PawSox brought in position player Jantzen Witte. The Wings greeted him with seven runs to cap the scoring at 19-4.
Every Red Wing recorded at least one hit, six tallied multi-hit games and two collected three hits. Luis Arraez finished 3-for-5 with a walk, two runs scored and a career-high five RBI. Wilin Rosario also had three hits while driving in four runs and scoring twice. Jake Cave doubled twice and dating back to yesterday his last six hits have all been doubles.
The 19 runs are the most in a game by Rochester in over 14 years. The last time the Wings scored that many runs in a game was when the team scored 21 on August 30, 2004 vs. Pawtucket. The Red Wings pounded out 17 hits but none were home runs. Seven were two-baggers.
Game 2
The second game could not have gone any different, aside from Cave hitting more doubles. Cave's ground-ruler in the 1st opened the scoring and Drew Maggi hit a home run in the 2nd to stake the Wings to a 2-0 lead.
Josh Tobias, who entered for the ejected Marco Hernandez, homered in the 3rd to cut the Pawtucket deficit in half. The PawSox would score three runs off of Fernando Romero in the 5th and 6th innings to take their first lead of the day. Rochester trailed 4-2 entering the 7th but wasted little time to tie the game. Tomas Telis walked to open the frame and Maggi's second home run of the game tied the score against Jenrry Mejia. Nick Gordon and Jake Cave both singled before Brent Rooker hit a three-run rocket off the batter's eye in center field for the go-ahead homer.
Trevor Hildenberger hit a batter with one out but locked down his first save of the season in a scoreless 7th.
