The Arkansas Travelers won their second straight game at Hammons Field, defeating the Cards 5-3 on Sunday afternoon.
Coby Smith cracked a two-run homer and drove in three runs, while the Arkansas bullpen pitched four scoreless innings of one-hit relief.
Daryl Jones put Springfield on the board in the bottom of the first inning, leading off the game with his third homer of the year, making it 1-0 off Travs' starter Marco Albano.
Cards' starter Scott Gorgen got touched for three in the third, as the Travs took the lead for good. Peter Bourjos, Smith and Mark Trumbo each had an RBI single, putting the Travs in front 3-1.
Springfield got a run back in the bottom of the fourth, making it a one-run game when Mike Folli knocked in Colt Sedbrook.
Gorgen (4-5) gave up a two-run blast in the fifth though, as Smith hit his eighth round-tripper of the year, making it a 5-2 game.
The Cards picked up an unearned run off of Albano in the fifth. Daryl Jones reached on a fielding error and later scored on Andrew Brown's RBI groundout, making it 5-3.
That's as close as the Redbirds would get, as Ryan Aldridge and David Herndon combined to work four scoreless frames. Herndon went the final two innings to earn his 11th save of the year.
The Cards (32-37, 70-69) and Travs will meet on Monday afternoon at 12:10pm, in the final regular season game of the year. Nick Additon (2-3) will take on Amalio Diaz (3-7) in the series-finale.
