One Healy of a Finish
April 16, 2016 - Texas League (TL1)
Midland RockHounds News Release
In Thursday night's series opener, the Arkansas Travelers and RockHounds combine for a dozen runs, with Ryon Healy driving in five runs in a 9-3 'Hounds win. Friday night, Healy had one RBI - - but it decided the ballgame.
Healy ripped a 1-2 pitch into the left field bullpen, a walk-off home run in the ninth that gave the RockHounds a 1-0 win over Arkansas.
Each club had five hits and one error, and Arkansas threatened with a two-out rally of its own in the ninth (see note, below), but Healy's shot ... his second home run of the season and second in as many games ... produced the game's lone run.
As they did at North Little Rock on April 9, starting pitchers Jordan Kipper (Arkansas) and Daniel Mengden staged an outstanding pitcher's duel. In their previous meeting, the pair allowed a total of one run on eight hits over a combined 11.1 innings. Mengden, in fact had the exact same pitching line on Friday as he did in the first match-up (see "Stat of the Day," below). Kipper went seven innings, allowing no runs on four hits.
