Omaha Lancers News Release
RALSTON, NE - The Omaha Lancers have named Rob Rassey as their new head coach. Having joined the Lancers earlier as general manager, Rassey will now serve the Lancers in both roles.
"Rob has already proven to be a valuable asset and we are seeking to utilize another set of his capabilities," said Mike Picozzi, majority owner of the Omaha Lancers. "With Rob stepping in, we have completed another step in the process of restructuring the hockey department. I would also like to thank Gary Graham for the job he did as interim head coach."
Rassey's depth and breadth of hockey experience speaks for itself, including as director of TPH Chicago before joining the Lancers, and, prior thereto, as a scout for the Detroit Red Wings for two years, an assistant coach at Harvard for six years, and an assistant coach in the USHL for two years.
Rassey is a magna cum laude graduate of Northeastern University and holds a graduate degree in management from Harvard. As a player at Northeastern, Rassey was 4-time Hockey East All-Academic while also leading his team to its first NCAA tournament appearance in twenty years.
"I am honored and excited to be the next head coach and general manager of the Omaha Lancers. I look forward to the challenge of measuring up to and enhancing the rich history and tradition of the Omaha Lancers," said Rassey.
"Mike has moved swiftly to position the Lancers for a bright future," remarked minority owner Koots DiCesare. "Rassey is a rare gem that will keep appreciating. At the same time, a great deal of credit has to go to Gary Graham for catalyzing the Lancer hockey team during a period of very unusual circumstances. We appreciate his time and commitment to Lancer hockey."
