Omaha Beef to Host Second Annual "Can Opener" this Friday

The Omaha Beef are proud to announce the second annual "Can Opener," which will be held this Friday, March 20th during the season opener against the Wichita Wild. This Friday will mark the beginning of the Beef's tenth season of professional indoor football in Omaha. The "Can Opener" will serve as a large part of the celebration to not only kick off the 2009 season, but to give back to the community as well.
The "Can Opener" is an event created in conjunction with the Open Door Mission. Founded in 1954, it is the mission statement of the Open Door Mission to provide basic needs and life-changing programs for the homeless and needy. Overall, their vision is to provide long-term solutions that break the cycle of homelessness and poverty.
Last season's "Can Opener" event was a huge success as 1,350 pounds of canned goods were collected throughout the evening. This year's goal is to shatter that amount with well over 1,500 pounds collected. The Beef need the help of all fans in attendance to make that goal a reality.
"The Beef greatly value all of our non-profit partners," said Team President, Dakota Crow. "Open Door is one of the biggest and best in Omaha. It has been a pleasure to work with Candace and her entire team in promoting this event. We hope to raise even more food than ever and we hope to have a great win for all of Omaha on Friday night."
There is incentive to bring canned goods to the game. For each individual that brings in five cans, five dollars will be taken off the price of their ticket. Five dollars is the limit in price reduction but there is no limit to how many cans an individual can bring. Any and all help would be greatly appreciated.
Along with the Open Door Mission and the Omaha Beef, this event is also being co-sponsored by NRG Media. Without the gracious donations and assistance from NRG Media, this event would not have been possible.
