Storm Win Season Opener in Thrilling Fashion, 50-47

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - Terrance Bryant had over 250 yards and 5 touchdown passes in Saturday's 2009 Season Opener for the Sioux Falls Storm against the Bloomington Extreme. The last of his 5 touchdown passes, connected with Tavon McGee for the second time, was with less than 20 seconds go to in the fourth quarter to give the Storm (1-0) a 50-47 lead over the Extreme (0-1).

The Storm got on the board first in the back and forth contest when quarterback Terrance Bryant (25/37, 5TD, 2INT, 253 YRDS) hooked up with Tavon McGee for a 14-yard touchdown reception with 13:04 to go in the first, however, failed the extra point attempt. The Extreme quickly responded when quarterback Mitch Tanney found Peter Warrick for a one-play, 19-yard TD strike, to go up 7-6 with 12:47 in the first. The Storm regained the lead after Kevin Adams returned a block field goal 40 yards to put the Storm up 13-7. The lead was short-lived after the Storm returned a missed field goal for a touchdown.

After a few more exchanges of touchdowns, Bloomington went up by their biggest lead on the night, 28-19 after Tanney connected with Warrick for the second time. The Storm closed the lead just before the end of the first half when Bryant threw a 27 yard touchdown pass to Brent Little, bringing the Storm within 3 with :37 remaining in the half. The Storm opened the second half with a 7:28 drive, which resulted in a Sean Treasure TD run to put Sioux Falls back in front, 32-28. With 12:28 left in the ball game, Tanney connected with Brooks for a 19-yard TD reception and now led, 38-35. The Storm regained the lead, 42-38, when Treasure found the promise land for the third time in the game at the 7:15 mark.

The Lead changed 10 times in the game, including when the Extreme's Tanney, with under 1:00 remaining, threw his fifth touchdown pass to Robert Redd, which put the Extreme up, 47-42. With 40 seconds left, the Storm put together a game winning drive, capping off with McGee's second TD reception. James Terry scored the 2-point conversion pass from Bryant to put the Storm up by a field goal and seal the game with :16 seconds left.

The Storm has a short practice week before jumping on a plane to Rochester, NY to play the Raiders on Thursday night in Rochester. The Raiders will open their season with the Storm at 7:05pm EST.
