Omaha Beef News Release
Omaha, NE - The Omaha Beef professional indoor football team will look to make history Saturday evening when they face one of their longtime rivals, the Sioux Falls Storm, and try to end the Storm's 40-game winning streak. The streak is the longest in professional football history.
The critical Western Conference showdown is slated to kick off at 7 p.m. at the Omaha Civic Auditorium, 1804 Capitol Avenue, in Omaha.
On the season, the BEEF sit at 1-2 and in third place in the Western Conference while the Storm are 2-0 and are tied with the Billings Outlaws for first place in the conference. The last time these two teams met was May 19th of last year. In that game, Omaha jumped out to an 16-10 halftime advantage before Sioux Falls scored 23 points to Omaha's three as the Storm picked up the 33-19 win.
In their last action, the BEEF played the RiverCity Rage last Saturday evening at the Family Arena in St. Charles, Missouri, falling 36-18. Sioux Falls, who hasn't lost since July 15, 2005, will be coming off a bye week. In their last action, the Storm defeated the Colorado Ice 48-24 on March 17th.
Saturday's game will be sponsored by Orthowest, P.C. The first 2,000 fans through the turnstiles will receive a free "Bull-horn". For tickets, fans are encouraged to contact Ticketmaster at (402) 422-1212, stop by the Qwest Center box office at 455 N. 10th Street in Omaha or visit the Omaha Civic Auditorium box office on Saturday, beginning at noon.
BEEF Team President Dakota Crow expects "the Slaughterhouse" crowd to be active and loud.
"I hope to see a great crowd as we look to stop Sioux Falls' streak on Saturday," Crow said. "We had an awesome crowd two weeks ago. We want the Civic to be rocking with cowbells and the horns we're giving away. The people of Omaha will not want to miss this game."
During the first half of the game, representatives from Make-A-Wish will be selling paper airplanes for $1 each. This game marks the first of six games the BEEF are partnering with Make-A-Wish. At halftime, fans are invited to throw their paper airplanes into the bed of a 2008 Dodge Ram pickup truck. If fans make their airplane into the truck's bed, they will be invited back to the BEEF's final regular season game on June 14th to try their luck at one final toss to win the truck.
The Omaha Beef opened their 2008 home season versus the Bloomington Extreme on March 15, 2008. All home games will be played at the Omaha Civic Auditorium.
