Seattle Reign FC News Release
TACOMA, WA - As OL Reign prepares for the upcoming 2021 National Women's Soccer League season, the club today announced that its partnership with Zulily concluded with the close of the 2020 season.
The partnership between the club and Zulily was first announced on January 17, 2019. During the two-year term of the agreement Zulily was featured on the front of OL Reign's match jerseys, which was the most visible of many successful initiatives between the club and retailer over the last two seasons.
"We are deeply appreciative of the opportunity to work with Zulily over the past two years. They have been an engaged, collaborative partner who were always supportive of our efforts on and off the pitch," said OL Reign CEO Bill Predmore. "We are proud of all that we were able to accomplish together. We'll always be great fans of the brand and look forward to being a part of the greater Zulily community."
"We are incredibly proud and thankful to have been a part of the OL Reign family over the past two years," said Megan Marshall, Zulily Director of Brand Marketing. "We know that building a brand starts with the community at home, here in the greater Puget Sound Area. OL Reign has been and continues to be emblematic of teamwork, innovation, passion and has made such a positive impact on its local and global community. We wish OL Reign continued success and trailblazing in the future."
Over the past two years, the NWSL has grown rapidly pushed forward by the enthusiasm generated by the U.S. Women's National Team World Cup win in 2019 and the support and leadership of the new NWSL Commissioner, Lisa Baird. Despite formidable challenges in 2020 because of the global pandemic, the NWSL overcame tremendous obstacles in becoming the first professional sports league in the United States to resume play.
With the health, well-being, and safety of its players, staff, and fans as paramount, the league's bold, nimble approach led to a successful NWSL Challenge Cup that resulted in a league-record 653,000 viewers tuning in for the championship match, which helped propel TV viewership up an incredible 493% in 2020. This extraordinary growth was enabled through the NWSL's new broadcast partner, CBS, and demonstrates the country's growing passion and support for professional women's soccer. These achievements in 2020 led directly to a significant expansion of the league, with Racing Louisville FC joining the NWSL beginning with its upcoming 2021 season, with Los Angeles and Sacramento to follow for the historic 10th NWSL season in 2022.
"Over the past two years, the economic landscape of the NWSL has rapidly evolved leading to significant new opportunities for the league, its teams, and its partners," said Predmore. "We believe that the sport, the league and our club are perfectly positioned to collaborate with brands who seek to connect with an audience that is engaged, vocal, and passionate about women's sports."
