LAST GAME: Iowa tallied seven runs in the seventh inning to break a three all deadlock en route to a 11-5 win over Oklahoma. The RedHawks struck first with a Nate Gold home run and held short-lived leads of 2-0 and 3-2 before Yukinaga Maeda and Jeff Samardzija matched zeros over the fourth, fifth, and sixth innings. The I-Cubs tagged Kea Kometani for seven runs on seven hits in the seventh to take the advantage. Oklahoma managed a run in the home half of the seventh, Iowa answered in the eighth with a run, and Taylor Teagarden's sixth Triple-A home run capped the scoring in the ninth.
11 IN A ROW: Nate Gold is riding an 11-game hitting streak entering play tonight. Gold extended his longest streak as a RedHawk with a first inning home run off Jeff Samardzija in last night's loss. Gold is hitting .410 during the streak and has raised his average from .210 to .239. The first baseman's streak is the fourth longest this season by any RedHawk, and surpasses his 2007 season-high of ten games.
KEEP 'EM COMING:
Joaquin Arias has eight multi-hit games over his last 12 contests and has raised his average from .284 to .296 in the process. Aria is second on the club with 29 multi-hit games this year, trailing only Nelson Cruz (30).
ANY WAY YOU CAN:
Ryan Roberts is hitless in his last five games (0-13), but has managed to reach base six times on walks. Roberts last hit was in his final at bats in game two of last Sunday's doubleheader at Omaha; a seventh inning leadoff home run. The infielder is riding a four-game on base streak.
NIPPERT SCRATCHED FOR A REASON:
Dustin Nippert was a late scratch from his scheduled start last night, forcing Brian Gordon into an emergency spot start, his second ever professional start. Nippert has his contract purchased by Texas earlier today when Joaquin Benoit was placed on the disabled list with right shoulder inflammation. Nippert went 6-2 with a 3.98 ERA during his time in Oklahoma, including five rehab starts in May while on the Rangers disabled list.
IOWA AT A GLANCE:
The I-Cubs have won seven straight games, nine of their last ten, and 14 of their last 20... Several players extended hitting streak in last night's win, topped by Casey McGehee's 11-game run. Koyie Hill and Bobby Scales have each hit safely in seven straight and Micah Hoffpauir now has a six-game streak... Eric Patterson had one hits and scored two runs in his first game for the I-Cubs since June 19. Patterson played ten games for Chicago during his most recent stint with the Cubs... Iowa and Round Rock are the only PCL teams that are undefeated through four games this month. Both are current on seven-game winning streaks.
AROUND THE ORGANIZATION:
Texas fell in the series opener at Baltimore 10-4... Frisco beat Springfield 8-1... Bakersfield lost 3-1 at Lake Elsinore... Clinton blanked Beloit 4-0... Spokane scored five unanswered run for a 5-3 win over Eugene.
DOT-DOT-DOT:
Oklahoma will wear Chicago Bears-styled uniforms to benefit The Children's Center tonight. The Chicago-inspired jerseys coincide with former Sooner and current Bear Dusty Dvoracek's appearance at the Brick. The RedHawks are 0-3 this season when wearing charity jerseys and have been outscored 37-19... Nelson Cruz has Friday off to rest a sore left arm. Cruz has a 14-game home hitting streak entering his next game at the Brick... Former RedHawk southpaw Derek Lee was recently re-signed by Texas and assigned to the Frisco RoughRiders.... Last night was the second sellout of the season at AT&T Bricktown Ballpark (4/06 against Memphis).
ON THE AIR:
Every game this season can be heard on the RedHawks Radio Network, led by broadcaster Jim Byers for the ninth season, and joined by Adam Marco during each homestand.
