Oklahoma City Comets News Release
LAST GAME: Two Express pitchers combined to shutout the RedHawks on four hits in a 3-0 Round Rock win. All of the offense came on home runs for the Express. Former RedHawk Davis Newhan hit a two-run home run in the fourth inning, and Mark Saccomanno hit a solo shot in the sixth. Oklahoma's best chance to tie the game was stolen away when Ray Sadler climbed the left field bullpen wall to rob Nelson Cruz of a three-run home run in the home half of the sixth. Joaquin Arias notched two of the RedHawks four hits, while Taylor Teagarden had a double. Dustin Nippert took the loss despite tossing his fourth quality start for Oklahoma this season.
EXTENDED AGAIN: Nelson Cruz extended his hitting streak to 13 games on his on base streak to 23 with a single in the first inning. Cruz has reached safely in every game he has played since May 28, and the streak is the second longest current streak in the league behind Memphis' Colby Rasmus (30) and Matt Brown of Salt Lake (30).
BLALOCK PLAYS SEVEN:
Hank Blalock played five innings during his first rehab appearance on Saturday, and played seven innings last night. The first baseman is 2-5 at the plate with a walk and a run scored over his first two games, and has been credited with 11 putouts and one assist in the field.
STREAKS STYMIED:
Two RedHawks had their respective on-base streaks stopped in last night' loss. Chris Davis had his streak snapped at 25 consecutive games, the longest such streak by any RedHawk this season. Ryan Roberts came on as a defensive replacement in the sixth inning and went 0-1 at the plate, stopping his home on-base streak at 23 games dating back to May 8.
BATTERS OF THE WEEK:
Nelson Cruz and Chris Davis were named Co-Offensive Players of the Week in the PCL for their efforts from June 16 through 22, the first time any RedHawk players have been honored by the league this season. Cruz hit .565 with one home run, seven runs batted in, four walks, and ten runs scored last week, while Davis hit .370 with four home runs, 11 runs batted in, four walks, and seven runs scored. Oklahoma won four out of seven last week.
ROUND ROCK AT A GLANCE:
Mark Saccomanno is hitting .391 against the RedHawks this season with one home run, three runs batted in, and nine hits in 23 at bats... Yesterday's probable starter Jack Cassel went on the disabled list prior to the game, which cleared a spot for reliever Kyle Middleton, who pitched four innings last night for his first Triple-A save... Runelvys Hernandez will have his contract purchased by Houston at some point this week and is slated to make his Astros debut Friday against Boston.
