Sidewinders take advantage of Vegas miscues

Tucson, AZ - Three Las Vegas mistakes in the third inning leading to four unearned runs gave the Sidewinders an 8-4 victory on Monday night.

The 51s put up three runs in the second inning to take an early lead. Mitch Jones lead things off with a solo homerun to left his first of the season. Jon Meloan and Jason Repko RBI singles brought in the other two runs of the inning.

The Sidewinders took a 5-3 lead in the third due to the trio of miscues. Tim Raines, Jr. hit a line drive single to center with bases loaded that drove in Merchan from third, but a fielding error by Jason Repko brought in two other runs. Two batters later, Josh Whitesell hits a pop up to left that was dropped scoring Raines, Jr. from second. Robby Hammock followed with an RBI single to bring in the fifth run of the inning.

Las Vegas put one run up in the fifth off a Terry Tiffee two-out RBI single to left scoring Repko from third.

The Sidewinders secured the win in the sixth inning by putting up three insurance runs. Emilio Bonifacio and Raines hit back-to-back doubles to bring in the three runs. Bonifacio brought in one run with his ground-rule double and Raines brought in two.

The Sidewinders will face Las Vegas in the last game of the series on Tuesday at 7:00 PM. RHP Billy Buckner (4-6, 4.48) is scheduled to start for Tucson. Right-hander Dwayne Pollok (4-3, 4.01) will start for the 51s. The game will air live on COOL 1450 beginning at 6:50 p.m.
