Colorado Springs Sky Sox News Release
The bottom four batters of the Colorado Springs batting order produced 10 hits and nine RBI as the Sky Sox defeated Fresno for the third straight game, 13-1 in front of 1,794 fans at Security Service Field Monday night.
Edwin Bellorin finished the night 2-for-5 with a home run and three RBI out of the six hole in the order. Christian Colonel went 4-for-5 with a home run and two RBI. Doug Bernier added a two-run home run of his own during his 3-for-4 performance. And Sean Barker, in a pinch hitting role, rocked a two-run triple in the sixth inning.
Mark Redman (3-2) pitched six shutout innings before being removed for a pinch-hitting Barker. The veteran allowed just two Fresno batters to get into scoring position and retired the side in order three times. He gave up four base runners, two hits and two walks.
Fresno starter Patrick Misch (2-2) pitched well early, retiring the first six batters in order. The Fresno starter got himself into a jam in the third inning, walking consecutive batters to load the bases with one out, but he was able to strike out Jon Herrera before a Seth Smith line drive to second base ended the threat.
He wasn't so lucky in the fourth inning. A leadoff walk by Joe Koshansky was compounded when the first baseman stole second base. Koshansky crossed the plate for the game's first run two batters later on Bellorin's ground out Ivan Ochoa. Colonel followed with a double and Bernier responded with a two-run home run. After allowing an RBI single to Herrera, Misch's night came to an end. His final line: five runs in 3.2 innings.
The game got out of hand in a five-run seventh inning that saw 10 Sky Sox batters come to the plate. Jayson Nix led off with a walk before Bellorin and Colonel went back-to-back to give the home team an 11-0 lead.
Colorado Springs goes for the sweep Tuesday with a 7:05 PM start time. Glendon Rusch (1-1, 3.86) will try to seal the deal for the Sky Sox while Matt Palmer (2-8, 4.45) tries to salvage the series for the Grizzlies.
