TODAY'S OPPONENT:
The Tacoma Rainers are the Triple-A affiliate of the Seattle Mariners. Last season, the Rainers finished second in the Pacific North with a record of 74-70.
VS. TACOMA:
The Rainers won three of four games last season at Cheney Stadium in Tacoma. The Rainers won the first three games with the Hawks taking the finale. The Rainers lead the all-time series is 27-26.
TODAY'S GAME:
This is game 106 of the season, the second of 4 meetings between Oklahoma and Tacoma this season.
LAST GAME:
The RedHawks lost the first game of their series with Tacoma, falling 5-0 Saturday night at AT&T Bricktown Ballpark. The Rainers got a complete-game shutout from starter Robert Rohrbaugh as he limited the Hawks to just four hits in nine innings. With a run already in, Jeremy Reed hit an RBI triple to right and came all they way around to score after an error by right fielder Kevin Mahar to give the Rainers a 3-0 in the third inning. Tacoma added single runs in the fourth and seventh innings to make the score 5-0. RedHawk starter Robinson Tejeda took the loss, allowing four runs on six hits in five innings of work.
PITCHING MATCHUP: Edinson Volquez
gets the ball for the third time as a RedHawk this season. He won his start Tuesday against Portland, allowing a run on two hits in six innings. Volquez hasn't faced the Rainers in his career. Jason Davis pitches for the Rainers. Davis hasn't faced the RedHawks.
TUG STOPPED: Tug Hulett
had his 14-game hitting streak stopped last night. He hit .349 with two homers and five RBIs July 12-26. For the month of July, Hulett's hitting .340 through 23 games after hitting just .190 in 28 games during June. Hulett has at least one hit in 24 of his last 27 games.
VICTOR AT THE PLATE: Victor Diaz
is hitting .341 (15-44) with three homers and 16 RBIs over the last 11 games. He has at least one RBI in seven of the last 11 games.
STARTERS FIND TROUBLE:
After making it through the sixth inning in 11 of 12 starts July 12-24, the starters haven't made it into the sixth in four straight games coming into today.
IT'S A BLOW OUT:
The RedHawks are 8-3 in their last 11 games. During that span, they haven't played many close games. The Hawks have lost two straight and they have been outscored 26-7 by their oppenents in their last three losses. The RedHawks have outscored their oppnents 55-12 in their last eight wins, with at least 10 hits in each win.
LEAGUE LEADERS: Mike Wood
leads the PCL with a 3.21 ERA. Freddy Guzman leads the league with 36 stolen bases. Jason Botts leads the PCL with a .429 on-base percentage, he's second with 35 doubles, tied for third with 52 extra-base hits.
COOLBAUGH MEMORIAL FUND:
The Oklahoma RedHawks and RedHawk wives will be hosting a raffle to raise money for the Memorial Fund for Mike Coolbaugh's family. The raffle will run Friday through Sunday with the prizes being awarded on Monday. Winners will be posted on website by ticket number listing. Featured items will include Redhawks team memorabilia, major league items including a prized autographed Sammy Sosa bat, and more. Winners of the items don't need to present to claim prize. In addition, the Redhawks will be accepting donations for the Memorial Fund throughout the ballpark.
DOT-DOT-DOT:
The RedHawks are 8-10 on Sunday this season, and 12-11 in July...they're 10-13 in day games, and 4-5 in throwbacks...dating back to July 16, the Hawks are 8-4 in their last 12 games. They have committed a total of one error in the eight wins, but they have at least one error in the four losses (5)...the Hawks have allowed the opposing team to score first in five consecutive games...the RedHawks broke a string of five game with at least one extra-base hit yesterday, recording only four singles.
