Sidewinders Split Doubleheader After Losing First Game

Tucson, Ariz.- The Sidewinders splits their doubleheader against the visiting Albuquerque Isotopes Sunday, by winning the second game, at Tucson Electric Park.

Jeff Salazar lead the way, hitting an RBI triple and a solo home run in as the Sidewinders beat the Isotopes 6-2.

Albuquerque jumped to an early lead in the top of the first inning. With one out in the inning, Reggie Abercrombie singled, and John Gall reached on a walk. A double steal advanced the runners to second and third and Scott Seabol doubled to score the runners and give the Isotopes a 2-0 lead.

The Sidewinders got on the board in the bottom of the second on three consecutive singles by Chris Carter, Jamie D'Antona and Matt Erickson to make it 2-1.

Jeff Salazar tripled in the bottom of the third to score Rich Thompson and Robby Hammock hit a triple of his own to score Salazar. After a Carter strike out and a D'Antona walk Matt Erickson hit into a fielder's choice that allowed Hammock to score. D'Antona advanced to second due to a mental mistake by Andrew Beattie of the Isotopes. Jarred Ball doubled for his first career AAA hit to score D'Antona and give the Sidewinders a 5-2 lead.

Salazar hit his solo home run in the bottom of the fourth to extend the Sidewinders lead to 6-2.

Carrasco pitched six strong innings, allowing two runs both of them earner on six hits and a walk. Carrasco settled down after the first inning and stuck out eight batters.

The Isotopes used the long ball to take a big early lead on the Sidewinders in the first game of the doubleheader.

Sidewinders starter Bill Murphy struggled with command early, as he walked leadoff hitter Robert Andino and three batters later gave up a two-run homer to Valentino Pascucci.

Murphy's problems continued in the top of the second and didn't get much help from his defense. Murphy forced Brett Carroll to hit a ground ball to shortstop Alberto Callaspo but Callaspo misplayed the ground ball and Carroll reached on the error. Josh Labandeira reached on a walk and retired when John Baker grounded into a double play. Murphy then walked the Isotopes' starting pitcher Daniel Barone.

Andino stepped up and then hit a three-run home run to center field before Murphy retired Abercrombie on a ground out.

In the top of the third, after Gall singled and Pascucci lined out, Scott Seabol hit a two-run home run to give the Isotopes a 7-0 lead.

The Sidewinders put two on the board themselves in the bottom of the third. Mark Johnson reached on a walk and Brian Barden singled to start the inning. They moved over on a sacrifice bunt by Murphy that moved the runners to second and third. Callaspo doubled in two runs to bring the score to 7-2.

In the top of the fifth inning, home plate umpire D.J. Reyburn ejected RHP Chad Hermansen. Hermansen is currently on the disabled list.

The Sidewinders closed the lead in the bottom of the fifth inning when Brian Barden walked and Erickson doubled to put runners on second and third. A Callaspo sacrifice fly scored Barden. Alex Romero flew out and Hammock knocked in Erickson on an RBI double to make the score 7-4.
