LAST GAME:
The RedHawks rallied from an early 2-0 deficit with two runs in the fifth and three in the sixth to back Doug Mathis for his fourth win. Kevin Mench went 3-4 with a pair of runs scored and a pair driven in to lead the offense for Oklahoma, which has won four straight games. Mathis combined with Kaz Fukumori and Frank Francisco in the win, and the RedHawks took their fifth consecutive game from the Cubs at Principal Park, dating back to last season.
MATHIS LEADS:
Doug Mathis became the first PCL pitcher to win four games with yesterday's victory. The right-hander has also pitched a league-high 26 innings, going at least six frames in three of his four starts.
NO FREE PASSES ALLOWED:
Three RedHawks pitchers combined for yesterday's win, and none of the three surrendered any base on balls. It marked the first time this season that Oklahoma accomplished this feat. Starter Doug Mathis and relievers Kaz Fukumori and Frank Francisco combined to throw 113 pitches, 74 of which were strikes, and only faced a three-ball count four times in the game.
KISS IT GOODBYE:
The RedHawks had there home run streak snapped in Sunday's win. Oklahoma had hit home runs in nine consecutive games, dating back to April 11 at Albuquerque. Over the nine game span, the RedHawks hit 13 home runs, driving in 20 of the 67 runs scoring during the span.
STILL GOING:
Jason Ellison extended his hitting streak to 11 games with a fifth inning single yesterday, just one game off the league high this season (Portland's Luis Rodriguez- 12 games). The RedHawks outfielder also extended his on-base streak to 14 games, two behind Bradley Coon's current league-best run of 16 straight.
Iowa AT A GLANCE:
The Cubs have lost consecutive games for only the second time this season (4/05 (Game 2) & 4/06)... Chicago recalled OF Matt Murton from Iowa on Saturday and optioned IF Eric Patterson. Murton left as one of the I-Cubs leading hitters. Patterson was in the lineup for Iowa on Sunday, leading off as the designated hitter... Iowa ranks 14th in the PCL with a .239 average, but last in the league in hits and runs. Conversely, the Cubs pitching staff is seventh in ERA, and has surrendered the second fewest hits, sixth fewest runs, and struck out the sixth most batters in the PCL.
AROUND THE ORGANIZATION:
Texas lost a five-run lead, falling 6-5 in Boston... Frisco dropped a 10-6 final at Corpus Christi... Bakersfield lost at home to Lancaster 4-2... Clinton beat Dayton 11-1.
DOT-DOT-DOT:
Brandon Boggs hitting streak was stopped at nine games with an 0-5 Sunday afternoon. Boggs hit .417 during his streak and drove in five runs... Oklahoma now has 15 steals after taking a 2008 single game-high three yesterday. That overall tally is the third highest in the Pacific Coast League... The RedHawks have their first day off this season on Wednesday, ending a string of 20 consecutive days with baseball. Oklahoma has not had any games postponed as of yet due to inclement weather this year, although did have one game shortened due to rain (4/09 2-1 win vs. NAS in six innings).
