Omaha Storm Chasers News Release

OMAHA, NE - Jorge De La Rosa was named today as the Pacific Coast League's Pitcher of the Week, becoming the first Omaha Royals pitcher to earn that honor in the past six seasons. Prior to today's announcement, the last Omaha hurler to win the weekly award was Brett Laxton, who earned the honor on July 14, 2002.

De La Rosa made two starts last week, winning both and posting a 0.81 ERA in the process. The 27-year old lefty, who lives in Nuevo Leon, Mexico, worked 11.0 innings over the two starts last week, allowing just one run on seven hits and two walks, while striking out ten batters. He began the week by pitching the Royals to a 4-1 win at AutoZone Park in Memphis, giving up one run in 5.0 frames, and capped off the week at Rosenblatt Stadium on Sunday when he fired 6.0 scoreless innings of three-hit ball in Omaha's 6-1 victory over New Orleans.

In three starts this season, De La Rosa owns a 1.15 ERA, which ranks third in the Pacific Coast League. He's 2-0 on the season, with eleven hits and five walks allowed and 15 strikeouts chalked up in 15.2 innings.

De La Rosa was acquired by the Kansas City Royals from the Milwaukee Brewers in exchange for infielder Tony Graffanino on July 25, 2006. In 2007, he began the season in Kansas City's rotation and went on to set career highs in starts (23), wins (8), losses (12), innings (130) and strikeouts (82).

Albuquerque's John Gall was named today as the PCL's Batter of the Week. In seven games last week, he batted .458 (11-for-24) with four home runs and nine RBI. Gall added seven runs, two walks and a stolen base to help the Isotopes go 7-0 last week.

The last O-Royal to garner PCL Batter of the Week honors was Craig Brazell, who earned the honor on May 28, 2007, becoming the first Omaha batter since 2005 to take that award.
