Round Rock Express News Release
ROUND ROCK -- It was going to take more than one guy to lift the Express out of a four game slide, so Mark Saccomanno and Reggie Abercrombie got together with Josh Miller and got it done.
Saccomanno continued to break out of an early-season slump, going 3-for-4 with a homer and a double, and Abercrombie, batting two behind Saccomanno's No. 4 spot in the line-up, picked up two doubles, a triple, a run and an RBI as Round Rock broke a season-high four-game losing streak with a 7-5 win over Memphis at The Dell Diamond.
Josh Paul also picked up his first homer with a solo shot in the bottom of the eighth inning.
Making his first start in four appearances, Miller (1-0) worked a season-high six shutout innings, scattering five hits with no walks against three strikeouts.
Saccomanno led the bottom of the second off with a single to center, extending his hitting streak to six games. Abercrombie then pushed him across with a sharp double down the left field line.
In the third, Yordany Ramirez singled and stole second before Saccomanno doubled him home with a shot to left field. Abercrombie followed up with a triple into the left field corner in the fourth, eventually moving home to make it 3-0 Express.
Not to be outdone, Saccomanno answered with his second homer in as many games. With two out and Nick Gorneault on first, Saccomanno lifted a delivery from right-hander John Wasdin onto the left field berm, extending the Round Rock lead to five.
The Express tacked on another run in the seventh before Memphis broke through against reliever Chad Paronto in the eighth. Colby Rasmus jolted the Redbirds with a two-run shot into the pool area just beyond the right field wall that pulled the score to within 6-2 before Paul's homer.
Memphis picked up three more in the ninth with Amaury Marti's two-run blast off of Carlos Hines and Jarrett Hoffpauir's sacrifice fly off of Stephen Randolph, who closed out the game for his first save.
