TODAY'S OPPONENT:
The Omaha Royals are the Triple-A affiliate of the Kansas City Royals. They have been a member of the PCL since 1998. Last year, Omaha finished fourth in American North Division with a 53-91 record.
VS. OMAHA:
The RedHawks took two of three from the Royals earlier this month at AT&T Bricktown Ballpark. The final game of the series was ppd. due to a wet field and impending weather. In '06, the RedHawks won the season series 10-6, and went 5-3 at Omaha.
TODAY'S GAME:
This is game 45 of the season. It's the third game of a four-game series and the sixth of 16 meetings between Oklahoma and Omaha this season.
LAST GAME:
The RedHawks fell two games below .500 after losing 8-3 last night. Omaha was powered to the win by two home runs each from Craig Brazell and Mike Aviles. Making a spot start, Steve Rowe took the loss for the RedHawks by allowing five runs on six hits in 3.2 innings of work.
ROSTER MOVES:
RHP Armando Galarraga was transferred to Double-A Frisco yesterday after making one start for the RedHawks.
PITCHING MATCHUP: Mike Wood
looks to win his fourth straight start for the RedHawks. Wood pitched a complete game Friday against Iowa for his third win of the season. He allowed three runs on six hits. Jason Shiell starts for the Royals.
GOING YARD:
The RedHawks tied their season-high in a game with three home runs last night. Nate Gold, Marlon Byrd and David Matranga all hit solo shots. The Hawks have hit three home runs in a game against Omaha twice this season. The RedHawks have hit 24 home runs in the month of May after hitting just nine in 24 games in April.
MISSED OPPORTUNITIES:
The RedHawks have left 13 runners on base in the series. Through two games, the Hawks are 1-for-17 with runners in scoring position.
THE SIXTH:
Wood has pitched through the sixth inning in each of his last three starts. The RedHawks are 14-3 win the starter goes six plus innings. With the lead after six innings, the RedHawks are 14-1 but 3-21 when they trail after six.
BATTER OF THE WEEK: Jason Botts
is the PCLs Batter of the Week after hitting .524 (11-21) with two doubles, a home run, nine RBIs and five runs scored in six games. In 20 games this month, he is hitting .351 (27-77) with three home runs and 20 RBIs. For the season, Botts is now hitting .269 with four home runs and a 34 RBIs. Botts is fifth in the PCL in RBIs (34).
MARLON BYRD: Marlon Byrd
is putting up good numbers this season. He is tied for second in the PCL with 59 hits, fifth with a .360 average and fifth with a .420 on-base percentage after going 1-for-4 with a homer last night. For the month of May, Byrd is hitting .398 with six home runs and 25 RBIs.
DOT-DOT-DOT:
The RedHawks have lost five straight games on the road...The Hawks are second in the month of May with a .306 team batting average...Byrd has a six-game hitting streak...The RedHawks are last in the month of May with a 7.23 team ERA...RedHawk pitchers are 5th in the PCL in fewest hits allowed with 400 despite a league worst 5.40 team ERA...the Hawks have not committed an error five consecutive games...Botts has played in every game this season.
