Oklahoma City Re-Assigns Mullens And Weaver To Tulsa 66ers
March 2, 2010 - NBA G League (G League) News Release
NEW YORK, March 2, 2010 - The Oklahoma City Thunder today re-assigned rookie center Byron Mullens and second-year guard Kyle Weaver to the Tulsa 66ers, the team's NBA Development League affiliate. The assignments are the 25th and 26th of the 2009-10 NBA D-League season, respectively. Mullens and Weaver both re-join the 66ers following assignments earlier this season.
Mullens, a 7-0 rookie from Ohio State University, re-joins the 66ers following an 11-game assignment earlier this season, when he averaged 15.5 points, 8.3 rebounds and 1.3 blocks. He scored in double figures in 10 games, including a season-high 23 points in a 104-100 road loss to the Rio Grande Valley Vipers. He also recorded four double-doubles, including a season-high 17 rebounds, to go with 15 points, in a 98-87 win over the Utah Flash.
Selected in the first round of the 2009 NBA Draft by the Dallas Mavericks before being traded to Oklahoma City, Mullens has appeared in 12 games for the Thunder this season, averaging 1.2 points and 4.9 minutes. During his one-year career as a Buckeye, Mullens averaged 8.8 points, 4.7 rebounds and 1.1 blocks.
The assignment is the third of Weaver's NBA career - he was twice assigned during the 2008-09 season and once assigned earlier this season. Weaver has appeared in two NBA D-League games, averaging 17.0 points, 9.0 assists, 7.5 rebounds, 3.0 steals and 44.0 minutes. Weaver has played in three games for the Thunder this season and has appeared in a total of 59 NBA games during his career. He owns NBA career averages of 5.4 points, 2.3 rebounds and 1.8 assists.
Originally selected in the second round (35th overall) in the 2008 NBA Draft by the Charlotte Bobcats from Washington State University, Weaver was acquired by Oklahoma City in a trade with the Bobcats in August, 2008. During his final season at Washington State, Weaver averaged 12.2 points, 5.3 rebounds and 4.3 assists in 35 games.
Thunder fans can follow Mullens, Weaver, who are expected to join the 66ers today on the road in Austin and be available when the team faces the Toros tonight at the Austin Convention Center, by logging onto nba.com/futurecast to watch all of the team's games live, online, for free.
