Tulsa Oilers News Release
NORTH RICHLAND HILLS, TX - The Fort Worth Brahmas were a desperate team coming into Friday's tilt with the Tulsa Oilers and they played like it.
Fort Worth, with just 12 goals through its first six games, found its offense and its power play in a 5-4 Central Hockey League decision over Tulsa at the NYTEX Sports Centre.
The Oilers found themselves down 2-0 after the first period but quickly battled back in the second frame. Bouncing pucks in front of the Brahmas net led to goals by Gary Steffes and Michel Beausoleil which allowed the Oilers to tie the game at 2-2 just four minutes into the period. Beausoleil's tally was the 300th goal of his 12-year pro career and his team-leading seventh of the season. Fort Worth answered on the powerplay when Adam Hogg pushed a rebound past Tulsa goalie Dan Bakala and for the sixth time this season, the Oilers found themselves trailing going into the 3rd period.
Only 19 seconds into the final frame, Gary Steffes showcased his size and speed by bullying his way through the Brahmas defense and sliding the puck past Brad Fogal for his second goal of the night and sixth of the season. Momentum seemed to be back with the Oilers, but a breakaway goal by Shawn Szydlowski and a quick shot from Brahmas veteran Chad Woolard pushed Fort Worth back in front. Beausoleil was able to pull Tulsa within one on a 6-on-4 advantage with under a minute to play but it was too little too late for the Oilers. Fort Worth survived the final 52 seconds to secure the victory.
Tulsa fell to 4-5-1 overall and 2-4-0 away from home. Bakala made 30 saves in defeat and saw his record dip to 2-2-1. After a win on Wednesday, the Oilers have now dropped four of their last five and will face the Brahmas again on Saturday night at 7:30 p.m.
