November 9, 2012 - Central Hockey League (CHL) News Release
Three Things You Need to Know
1.) Americans Look to Stay Hot- The Allen Americans (6-1-0) travel to the Quad Cities this weekend for games Friday and Saturday against the Quad City Mallards (3-2-1). Allen is on a three-game win streak and leads the CHL with 12 points. Quad City is coming off a 5-3 win last Sunday versus Bloomington (a win that ended the Blaze's five-game win streak). Allen is 2-1 on the road this season and have used an unreal power play to fuel the offense. Allen is 8 for 19 on the road with the man advantage connecting at 42.1%. Quad City's power play has struggled at home going 0 for 14. Allen defenseman Brett Skinner is currently on a seven-game point streak and his 10 points (1-9=10) are tied for the most among all d-men.
2.) Sundogs/Cutthroats Battle Again- The expansion Denver Cutthroats (3-4-0) and the Arizona Sundogs (4-2-2) started what appears to be a strong rivalry on Wednesday night where Arizona won 5-3. The teams played a very physical game that saw a pair of tilts and 56 combined penalty minutes. Jeff Kyrzakos scored twice and Kyle Chipchura had three helpers for Arizona and Troy Schwab (1-2=3) and A.J. Gale (1-1=2) led the offense for the Cutthroats. Gale leads the league in scoring with 14 points (6-8=14) and Arizona goalie David Brown leads the league with a 2.01 GAA.
3.) Return to the CHL- Several star players have returned to the CHL this week with forwards Andrew Courtney signing in Missouri, Les Reaney in Wichita and Mike Ullrich in Tulsa. Courtney was a CHL All-Star last season and a member of the CHL All-Rookie Team. He scored 29 goals with 30 assists last season with the Mavs. Reaney scored 14 goals with 30 assists last season in Rapid City and in 2010 was named the CHL Playoff MVP. Ullrich was also a member of the All-Rookie Team as he led the Oilers in scoring with 64 points (29-35=64).
By the Numbers
9: The current point streak of Tulsa forward Ben Gordon who has scored one point in eight of his team's games and two points in one. His 10 points (6-4=10) on the season has him tied for eighth on the leagues scoring list. The Oilers play at Fort Worth on Friday and Saturday nights.
One-Timers
-No defenseman in the CHL is hotter than Jesse Dudas who has scored five goals and has four assists over his last five games. Dudas' 10 points (6-4=10) are tied for the most among defensemen and his five-game goal scoring streak is the longest in the league this season.
-The Arizona Sundogs new addition, forward Derek LeBlanc, made quite a first impression in Wednesday's 5-3 win over Denver by scoring a goal and dropping the mitts. LeBlanc was acquired earlier in the week in a trade with Missouri.
-The Wichita Thunder (4-3-1) take their three-game win streak into the weekend where they host Rapid City (4-3-0) on Friday and Saturday and then travel to Fort Worth (1-4-1) for a game on Sunday. Wichita beat Missouri three straight times last weekend.
-Missouri (2-3-2) will look to end their three-game slide (0-2-1) on Friday night when they host the red-hot Bloomington Blaze (5-2-0). The Mavs have played just one home game (a loss last Saturday versus Wichita) while the Blaze have been away from home just twice (1-1-0).
-Rapid City forward Scott Wray continue to move up the league's all-time lists as Wednesday's game in Tulsa marked his 628th CHL game moving him past Derek Landmesser for sixth on the league's all-time games played list. Wray's 279 career CHL goals rank 9th on the all-time list tied with Sylvain Naud.
-The Fort Worth Brahmas have lost four straight games and are just 1-4-1 on the season. Getting off to a fast start has been a problem as the Brahmas have yet to score the game's first goal. The Brahmas host Tulsa on Friday and Saturday and then host Wichita on Sunday in a three-game home weekend that could turn things around dramatically for Fort Worth.
