Tulsa Oilers News Release

The Tulsa Oilers went 1-0-1 in their first weekend of play to open up the 2003-2004 season in first place in the CHL's Northwest Division.

Friday night, the Oilers traveled to Colorado to take on the expansion Eagles. Anthony D'Arpino had a goal and an assist, and R.J. Gates and Mark Scott each added a goal as the Oilers held off the Eagles 3-2 before 5,211 at the Budweiser Events Center. Goaltender Rod Branch made 42 saves to earn his first win of the season.

The next night, Tulsa went on to Wichita to face the Thunder. Trailing 1-0 late in the third period, Dan Gravelle lit the lamp with his first goal of the year, set up by Jason Bermingham and Todd Marcellus. However, the score would not remain tied for long, as just 38 seconds into the extra frame, Wichita's Chad Mazurak scored, giving Wichita its first win of the season. Goaltender Tim Kelleher made 26 stops in his CHL debut for the Oilers.

This coming week, the Oilers travel to Oklahoma City to take on the Blazers Tuesday, and then open up the home schedule this Friday and Saturday, hosting the Memphis RiverKings and Colorado Eagles, respectively.
