Gorillas Prepare for Home Opener this Friday against Expansion Bees

AMARILLO, TX – Preparations are continuing for the home opener for the Amarillo Gorillas this Friday night when they host the expansion Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees.

Game time is 7 p.m. and the night is sponsored by Taco Villa/Rosa's Café. There are many giveaways at the door including magnet schedules, glow pins and thundersticks.

It will be just the second game of the young history for the Killer Bees which will have many familiar faces such as former Lubbock Cotton Kings Head Coach Tracy Egeland, and former El Paso Buzzards Troy Linna, Jeremy Vanin and goaltender Jeff Levy.

The Amarillo Gorillas are coming off a tough 3-2 loss in the hands of the rival Lubbock Cotton Kings on Saturday night. Rookies Sam Hill and Tyler Butler provided the offense for the Gorillas with goals on the powerplay. Goaltender Shawn Degagne had a solid outing in the loss and kept his team in the game with timely saves.

Friday night's home opener is part of a busy weekend for the Amarillo Gorillas as they will be back on the ice on Saturday night when they entertain the much improved Wichita Thunder also at 7 p.m.

This is Cox Communications night and two NHL Center Ice Packages will be given away to lucky fans.
