OPENING NIGHT WIN! – On Friday, the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs began the 2003-04 Central Hockey League season with a solid 5-2 win over the Wichita Thunder in front of 4,572 fans at the Kansas Coliseum. The stars of the night were the trio of Jason Campbell, David Oliver and Trevor Buchanan, who combined to score nine points, including three of the five goals to help lead the way. Goaltender Ken Carroll shut down the Thunder with 40 saves, including 18 in the third period to preserve the lead. Penalty killing also proved to be a key for the Mudbugs as the Thunder failed to score on 10 power play chances throughout the night. After 18 minutes of scoreless play to start the game, Jason Campbell scored the first goal of the season for the Mudbugs with assists from Oliver and Buchanan. After two goals from Buchanan and one from Dan Wildfong, Craig Soke added his first professional goal, on a beautiful diving centering pass from Chad Spurr, to seal the 5-2 victory.

BUGS FALL TO INDIANAPOLIS, 5-2 – Jared Dumba scored two first period goals, including one of three Indianapolis power play tallies, as the Indianapolis Ice defeated the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs 5-2 at the Pepsi Coliseum. Indy capitalized on their first power play chance of the season as Mario Doyon fired a shot from the blue line that was deflected by Jared Dumba past Mudbugs netminder Ken Carroll. Dumba then struck again by redirecting a Mike Bozoian shot at 7:47 of the first to make it 2-0 Indianapolis. After Mike Zeibaq opened the second period with his first goal of the year, Trevor Buchanan got the Mudbugs back in the contest with his third goal of the season. However, Ice defenseman Bernie John reclaimed the three goal lead for the Ice at 3:33 of the third period with a power play goal. Mudbugs rookie Craig Soke scored his second goal in as many games late in the third, but the Mudbugs were unable to overcome the deficit. Ken Carroll suffered his first loss of the season, despite making 35 saves, while Ice goaltender Jeff Sanger made 26 saves in his Indianapolis debut.
