
Oilers Fall to Wichita 6-2 in Home Opener

TULSA, OK - The Tulsa Oilers took a 2-1 lead into the third period of Friday night's home opener with the Wichita Thunder but surrendered five goals in the final frame and suffered a 6-2 loss in front of 5,066 at the BOK Center.
Wichita forward Matt Summers tied the game at two just 26 into the third period and the floodgates opened for the Thunder. Aaron Davis put the Thunder ahead for good with a shorthanded tally and the visitors would capitalize twice on the powerplay in the third period. Wichita had 50 shots on goal and outshot the Oilers 22-3 in the final twenty minutes.
The Thunder now has 8 third period goals in its last two games and improved to 3-0 on the season.
The Oilers took an early lead on a powerplay when Luke Lucyk wristed home a shot from the point at the 4:59 mark of the first period. Five minutes later, Sean Erickson gave Tulsa a two goal advantage when he one-timed a cross ice pass from Jay Sprague past Thunder goalie Ryan McDonald.
Tulsa falls to 2-1 on the young season with another home game coming up Saturday night against the Texas Brahmas. The Oilers beat the Brahmas 3-0 last Saturday behind a 34 save performance from Ian Keserich. The puck drops at the BOK Center at 7:35pm on Saturday before the Oilers make a return trip to Texas to take on the Brahmas on Sunday at 4:05pm.
