Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees News Release
LAREDO, Texas- The Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees (0-3-0) fell behind early to the Laredo Bucks (2-1-0) and were unable to complete a third period comeback falling 4-3 on Friday night. The Bees picked up a pair of goals from Jake Hauswirth and one from Aaron Lee but the four second period goals by the Bucks anchored their victory.
The two teams traded chances in the first period but neither was able to gain an advantage as both John Murray (12 saves) for the Bees and Torrie Jung (seven saves) for the Bucks turned away each opportunity that came their way.
In the second period the Bucks would race out to a 2-0 lead after goals from Mark Nebus and Justin Styffe. Styffe's goal would come shorthanded after chasing down the loose puck and shoving the puck down the goal line.
The Bees thought they may have the cut the lead in half when David Marshall forced the puck towards the net but the referee waived off the goal saying it was kicked in.
The Bees would finally cut the lead in half at 11:18 of the second as Jake Hauswirth scored his first of the game with a strike from inside the top of the circle. Brandon Campos controlled the puck along the backboards and passed to Dan Gendur. Gendur one touched the puck to Hauswirth who took a one-time slap shot to score.
The Bucks would waste no time regaining a two-goal advantage, then three-goal advantage as Adam Rivet and Neil Trimm scored less than two minutes apart giving the Bucks a 4-1 lead with the goals at 15:43 and 17:34.
Jake Hauswirth would strike once again late in the second period to cut the lead to two heading into the locker room. Nicolas Rioux worked the puck down low while the Bees were on a five-on-three to Dan Gendur. Gendur once again found Hauswirth alone on the back side of the net for the goal.
The explosive second period saw six goals and each team registering 13 shots on net a piece.
The Killer Bees would get one more strike in the third period as Aaron Lee scored his second of the season, this one from his knees but it would not be enough as the Laredo Bucks were able to hold on for the 4-3 victory.
The Killer Bees and Laredo Bucks will duke it out once again Saturday night at 7:30 p.m. Fans can follow the game on 956sports.com and CHL-TV. The Bees return home a week from tonight facing the Texas Brahmas and the Tulsa Oilers at 7:30 p.m. at the State Farm Arena.
