Fogal Called up to AHL's Rockford IceHogs

October 28, 2011 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Quad City Mallards News Release

MOLINE, Ill. - The Quad City Mallards of the "AA" Central Hockey League today announced goaltender Brad Fogal has been called up to the American Hockey League's Rockford IceHogs for the IceHogs' game in Peoria against the Rivermen tonight. In Fogal's absence, the Mallards have signed goaltender Bryan Wright.

A sudden depletion of the IceHogs' goaltending corps led to the call-up for Fogal, who is expected to return to the Mallards tomorrow. The Flock visits the Bloomington Blaze tonight and again tomorrow evening. Both games face off at 7:05 p.m.

Wright, 27, is a Bloomington-area resident who last season served as a practice goaltender for the then-Bloomington PrairieThunder. He is slated to back up David McKee in the Mallard crease this evening before making way upon Fogal's return.

Fogal, a 25-year old rookie, has yet to see regular season action for the Mallards. Last season Fogal finished a standout four-year career at Adrian College as the Division III record holder for most career wins. As a senior, the Sharon, Ontario, native went 25-4-1 with a 2.23 goals against average and a .923 save percentage in 30 games while helping Adrian to a fourth straight Midwest Collegiate Hockey Association title, a second consecutive NCAA Frozen Four appearance and a berth in the Division III national title game.

The career win mark is just one of a host of milestones reached by Fogal, who was a four-time MCHA All-Conference selection. Fogal finished his collegiate career with the second best save percentage in Division III history (.934) and the MCHA records for wins (70) and minutes (4,138) in conference play.

Before heading to Adrian, Fogal spent three seasons in the Ontario Provincial Junior Hockey League, where he tended goal for the Huntsville Otters, Newmarket Hurricanes and Pickering Panthers.

Fans can listen to both of the Mallards' games this weekend and Mallards action throughout the season on Fox Sports Radio 1230. Online pay-per-view video webcasts of all Mallards games are available via CHL-TV at chltv.neulion.com/chltv/.

The Mallards next play at home next Friday night at 7:05 p.m. against the Dayton Gems. Next Friday will be Veterans Appreciation Night as the Mallards honor those who have served in the armed forces in what will be the Flock's final home game before Veterans Day. Tickets for Veterans Appreciation Night are available to veterans for the special discounted rate of just $5 at the i wireless Center box office. Family and friends of veterans can purchase their seats for next Friday night's game at special discounted group rates.

Next Friday evening will also see the Mallards hold their annual teddy bear toss. Fans who bring a new, unwrapped stuffed animal to the November 4 game can toss it onto the ice after the Mallards' first goal in that tilt. Those teddy bears will then be donated to the Quad City Festival of Trees and used to assemble the "Zoo Tree." Festival of Trees will, in turn, donate the teddy bears to children in need. The first 1,000 fans through the doors who bring stuffed animals to the game will receive free Mallards teddy bears in exchange.

Single game tickets for all of the Mallards' regular season contests- including next Friday's game- are now available. Fans can contact the Mallards at (309) 277-1364 or tickets@myqcmallards.com for more information about both season and single game tickets.

Single game tickets are also available at the i wireless Center box office, at Ticketmaster outlets, through www.ticketmaster.com or through Ticketmaster charge-by-phone toll free. The box office is open weekdays from 10:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., on Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and on game days from 10:00 a.m. until the start of the second period. Individual game tickets are available for $12 in the upper level and $17 in the lower level.
