Tulsa Oilers News Release
BRAMPTON, ON - The Tulsa Oilers had scored three or more goals in nine consecutive games but could not get a single shot past Brampton goalie Grant Rollheiser in a 4-0 setback at the Powerade Centre on Friday night. Rollheiser turned aside 31 shots and handed the Oilers their first shutout loss of the season.
The two clubs battled to a scoreless draw over the first 35 minutes of action and the stalemate was finally broken by Beast forward Jason Pitton. After scooping up a loose puck at neutral ice, Pitton raced in all alone toward Tulsa goalie Shane Madolora and was able to slide the puck between his pads for his ninth goal of the season. With two and a half minutes remaining in the middle frame, Beast rookie Michael MacIssac took down Oilers veteran Todd Robinson and Tulsa center Kyle Bochek responded to the hit on his very next shift. Bochek wanted to fight MacIssac but the Beast forward was not a willing combatant and only Bochek was assessed penalties. Referee Alexandre Garon called Bochek for a total of 27 penalty minutes including a 10-minute misconduct for instigating and a game misconduct for being the aggressor in the fight.
As a result of the infractions, the Oilers were forced to kill off seven minutes of Beast power play time. Even with a successful kill, the Oilers were unable to mount any kind of offensive attack and Josh McQuade provided Brampton with a much-needed insurance tally at the 7:56 mark of the third. Andrew Fournier chipped in his second goal in as many nights at 13:29 and Cal Wild capped off the Beast victory with an empty net goal at 17:25.
The Oilers four-game win streak came to an end while Brampton was able to stop its two-game skid. Tulsa's bid to win five games in a row for the first time since November of 2009 was thwarted and the Oilers dropped to 2-1-0 this season agains the Beast.
The series rubber match will take place at 2pm (EST) on Sunday afternoon.
