Kansas City Mavericks News Release
INDEPENDENCE, Missouri - The Missouri Mavericks defeated the Allen Americans 5-2 on Friday night at the Allen Events Center.
The Mavericks were first on the board, taking an early lead with a goal by Saverio Posa (assisted by Trevor Kell and Eric Castonguay) in the first half of period one. The Mavs made their second jump on the Americans in period two when Rob Kleebaum notched his sixth goal of the season with the help of Andrew Courtney to secure a 2-0 lead.
Allen charged into the third period on a mission to put up a point, and John Snowden did just that only 53 seconds into the period to cut the Mavs lead in half. In need of a boost to secure a strong hold on the match, Trevor Kell came flying out of the box as the Mavs fifth penalty of the night came to an end and took a perfect set up pass by Obi Aduba to take a 3-1 advantage over the Americans. Darryl Bootland pulled Allen back into the game with a power-play goal, but Mike Ramsay lit the lamp for the Mavs with a power-play goal of his own assisted by Matt Stephenson and Sebastien Thinel.
Then rookie, Rob Kleebaum, made his second impression on the night with another goal, this one perfectly fed by Mike Ramsay via Anders Franzon, at a near-impossible angle to secure a 5-2 victory over the Allen Americans.
The Americans travel to the Independence Events Center Saturday, December 14th for the rematch against the Mavericks. Puck drops at 7:05pm.
The Missouri Mavericks invite all fans to bring new or gently used Teddy Bears and/or stuffed animals to the game on December 14th for Teddy Bear Toss! When the Mavericks score their first goal of the evening, fans can throw the bears/stuffed animals onto the ice to be donated to local charities to be used as holiday presents for children in need.
