Oilers Begin New Year with 6-2 Loss to Americans

Tulsa Oilers News Release
ALLEN, TX - The Allen Americans fired 40 shots on goal and powered past the Tulsa Oilers for a 6-2 Central Hockey League victory on Friday night at the Allen Event Center. Tulsa's road losing streak carried over from 2012 to 2013 as the Oilers dropped their 11th straight away from home.
After a heavyweight bout off the opening faceoff between Tulsa's Daniel Amesbury and Allen's Ryley Grantham, Ben Gordon's powerplay goal gave the visitors an early lead at the 2:17 mark of the first period, but Tulsa's advantage didn't last long. Americans defenseman Brett Skinner, just activated off the IR, blasted a powerplay slap shot past Shane Madolora to even the score. Less than two minutes later, Jamie Schaafsma tucked in a rebound and the Americans took a 2-1 lead into the first intermission.
The first-place Americans padded their lead in the second period when rookie Drew Daniels scored his first professional goal and Skinner added his second goal of the night with yet another blast from the point.
Awarded a 5-on-3 powerplay in the third period, the Oilers had an opportunity to get back into the game but Americans captain Jason Dietsch made sure it didn't happen. Dietsch, playing in his 500th professional game, blocked Gordon's shot, raced after the puck, and snapped a shot past Madolora. The shorthanded marker swelled the Allen lead the 5-1 and put the game out of reach. Oilers rookie Drew Fisher notched his fourth goal of the season and Schaafsma added his second of the night to complete the scoring.
Amesbury fought twice for the Oilers and watched teammates Gio Flamminio and Sean Erickson each drop their gloves in the third period. Frustration was evident for an Oilers squad that dropped to 1-5 this season against Allen and 0-4 at the Allen Event Center.
The Oilers travel to Fort Worth on Saturday night for a 7:30 p.m. face off with the Brahmas at the Fort Worth Convention Center.
