Oilers Agree to Terms with Goaltender Yann Danis

Oklahoma City - The Edmonton Oilers agreed to terms with goaltender Yann Danis on a one-year contract, Oilers General Manager Steve Tambellini announced today.

Entering his ninth season as a pro, Danis has played in 310 games, posting a 138-122-27 record, 2.68 goals against average, .911 save percentage and 17 shutouts. He has played in 50 NHL games with Montreal, New Islanders, New Jersey Devils and the Oilers. In those 50 games, he has a 16-21-4 record, 2.70 goals against average and .911 saves percentage.

Danis, a 6-0, 185-pounder from Lafontaine, Quebec was a stalwart in net for the Barons during the 2011-12 campaign. In 43 games played last season, he posted a 26-14-2 record, 2.07 goals against average, .924 save percentage and five shutouts. Those totals put him in the top six in each of those categories in the league.

He etched his name into the Barons record books twice. His five shutouts is the most in the brief two-season history of the Barons. He also owns the individual record for consecutive shutout minutes by a Barons goaltender at 173 minutes 16 seconds. The first part of the calendar year was among his strongest stretches when he allowed two goals or fewer in 11 straight starts.

For his efforts last season with the Barons, Danis was named the Aldege "Baz" Bastien award winner as the American Hockey League's outstanding goaltender. He was also voted a Western Conference All Star and named the goaltender of the First Team AHL All Star Team.

Prior to turning pro, Danis skated at Brown University. In four seasons at Brown, he played in 100 games, posting a 43-43-16 record, 2.20 goals against average, .930 saves percentage and 13 shutouts. His strongest season was his final campaign at Brown when he posted a 15-11-4 record, 1.81 goals against average, .942 save percentage and five shutouts. For his efforts that season, he earned Hobey Baker Award Finalist honors, ECAC Most Valuable Player and Outstanding Goaltender awards.
