
Canadiens Sign Cedrick Desjardins and Michael Blunden to One-Year Deals

MONTREAL, QC - Montreal Canadiens Executive Vice President and General Manager Marc Bergevin announced the signings of goaltender Cedrick Desjardins and winger Michael Blunden to one-year, two-way contracts.
Desjardins, 26, played 32 games during the 2011-2012 season with the Lake Erie Monsters posting a record of 16-11-5, a 2.11 goals against average and a .932 save percentage. The six-foot, 192-pound goaltender played 92 games for the Hamilton Bulldogs between 2006-2010 accumulating a record of 49-27-5. The native of Edmundston, New Brunswick has played in two National Hockey League games with the Tampa Bay lightning in 2010-2011 collecting two victories. Desjardins was named to the American Hockey League Second All-Star team in 2010 and won the 2008 East Coast Hockey League Kelly Cup Championship with the Cincinnati Cyclones while being named the Most Valuable Player during the playoffs.
Blunden, 25, played 39 games for the Montreal Canadiens in 2011-2012 and registered four points (two goals, two assists), 34 shots on goal, 104 hits and 27 penalty minutes. In 90 games over six seasons in the NHL, the Toronto, Ontario native has amassed eight points (four goals, four assists) and 96 penalty minutes. In 17 games this past season for the Bulldogs, the six-foot-four, 211-pound forward recorded eight points (three goals, five assists), 49 shots on goal and 26 penalty minutes. Blunden has played 257 games in the AHL and has totaled 128 points (55 goals, 73 assists) and 306 penalty minutes.
